Dust storms (or haboobs) are unexpected, unpredictable and can sweep across Arizona's desert landscape at any time. You can endure these brief but powerful windstorms if you know how to react.

BE prepared

When a dust storm hits, there are several things you can do to protect your family:

If you are outside:

·          Seek shelter immediately.

·          Cover your eyes, nose and mouth.

·          Stay low and cover up.

If you are in a moving vehicle:

·          Pull off the roadway or reduce speed.

·          Douse the car lights.

·          Set the emergency brake.

BE curious
