Incident Summary:
A collection of strong thunderstorms producing intense rainfall moved across the Sedona area between 1:45 and 3:00 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2009.
According to the National Weather Service, most of Sedona received between 0.5 to 3 inches of rain in under an hour. The resulting runoff resulted in flash flooding at several locations, the worst of which was reported in West Sedona and Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village.
Recovery Efforts:
The City of Sedona, in conjunction with various organizations, continues efforts to help the community and residents affected by the flash flood occurrence of September 10, 2009. Flood recovery information and updates are being posted to the “Flash Flooding Updates” page City of Sedona Web site.
A Sedona Flood Long Term Recovery Committee formed in early October to aid individuals and families in need of financial and home repair assistance. Long-term recovery is an extended process that can last many months. The Committee includes representatives of state and local government, Verde Valley Guidance Clinic, faith-based organizations, and Arizona Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (AzVOAD) members, including the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and the Arizona Ecumenical Council.

The Northern Arizona Interfaith Council (NAIC) is leading a volunteer community recovery process by coordinating volunteers to facilitate long-term recovery assistance for individuals and families affected by the flash flood.

Assistance for Businesses:
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced in a press release that low-interest working capital loans (i.e., Economic Injury Disaster Loans) will be made available to small businesses economically impacted by the flash flooding in Sedona.
