Comet Fire Crews Expected to Work Late Into the Evening 


(Posted on June 9, 2012 at 8:35 p.m.)  The Comet Fire is approximately 200 acres and is estimated 50 percent contained.  Ground and air resources engaged; additional resources en route.  Anticipating calmer winds tonight which will lead to safer conditions; crew are expected to work late into this evening.

Date reported: June 9, 1205 hrs.

Cause: Under investigation

Location: Between Florence Junction and Superior, north of Hwy. 60

Resources committed:

1 type 1 crew

1 10-person crew (Prescott)

2 type 2 crews en route

6 engines


1 helicopter


1 lead plane

1 air attack plane

2 heavy air tankers

Terrain: Foothills of Superstitions

Fuel: Sonoran Desert, riparian

Cooperators:  Queen Valley, Apache Junction, and Superior fire departments; Pinal County Sheriff’s Office; SRP.
