Tonto National Forest Fire Update; Several New Fire Starts  


(Posted on June 10, 2012 at 2:20 p.m.)  Tonto National Forest officials are reporting several fire starts on the Tonto National Forest today.


The 257 Fire is located off Hwy 177 Rd. at junction with Forest Road 257.   The fire is approximatedly 2-3 acres.  An air attack is currently engaged and 2 SEATs have been ordered.


The Off Hwy. 87 the is a vehicle fire at mile marker 232 and 1 small roadside fire between mile marker 207 – 208.


The Comet fire is located between Florence Junction and Superior, north of Hwy 60,  The fire is approximately 200 acres and estimated to be 50 percent contained.  Ground and air resources engaged.  Calmer winds make fire containment more manageable.

Cause: Under investigation

Resources committed:

1 type 1 crew

1 10-person crew (Prescott)

2 type 2 crews

5 engines


1 helicopter

Fuel: Sonoran Desert, riparian

Cooperators:  Queen Valley, Apache Junction, and Superior fire departments; Pinal County Sheriff’s Office; SRP.
