(Posted Aug. 9, 2012 at 11;15 a.m.) Fire crews are working to suppress a wildfire that has grown to 100+ acres on the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest.
The East Fire, which was started by lightning, is burning mainly in cheatgrass and pinyon-juniper woodlands on the west side of the North Kaibab district near Slide Point. While there are no structures in the area, the fire is burning near the boundary with Kanab Creek Wilderness.
Resources on scene include two engines, one dozer, a helicopter, and multiple individual firefighting personnel. Additional resources including a Single Engine Airtanker have been ordered.
