(Posted on Sept. 10, 2012, 6:53 p.m.) The American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter has opened an overnight shelter at the Castle Dome Middle School, 2353 S. Otondo Dr., in Yuma. Anyone affected by the storm-related power outage is encouraged to go to the shelter, which will remain open until power is restored to the area and the help is no longer needed. Cots, meals, snacks, water and showers are provided free of charge.
The Red Cross cooling station at Mt. Zion Church, 2445 E. 24th St. in Yuma has closed.
The Humane Society is on standby for pets needing assistance. Anyone needing disaster assistance is asked to go to the Red Cross Shelter at Castle Dome Middle School or call the Red Cross at 1-800-842-7349.
